Election meddling by foreign power or states is hot topic for U.S. Congress and American public right now. But we should not forget United States’ role in foreign elections, too. The United States of America via Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) and their proxy actors has routinely meddled in, influenced, and even toppled foreign governments that don’t meet or adhere to United States’s national interests or its foreign allies’s policies.

      See articles by

Levin, Dov H. (June 2016). “When the Great Power Gets a Vote: The Effects of Great Power Electoral Interventions on Election Results”. International Studies Quarterly. 60 (2): 189–202.

Tharoor, Ishaan. “The long history of the U.S. interfering with elections elsewhere”, Washington Post (13 October 2016).

Levin, Dov H. “Sure, the U.S. and Russia often meddle in foreign elections. Does it matter?”, The Washington Post (7 September 2016).

As U.S. House of Representative contemplated and debated the Mueller Report, then considered contempt charge against Attorney General William P. Barr, and then conducted Impeachment Trial in U.S. Senate against President Trump, the basis of foreign election interference by the bad actors in Russia and their governmental officials with implied consent or direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin is not definitively proven matter.

Did the Mueller report or any intelligence agencies of U.S. know or investigate what type of malware was used by Russian Federation’s Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff (GRU) to hack into Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and Democratic National Committee (DNC) computers?

Was the malware used by GRU embedded or have remote control or access capability?

Virtual or proxy servers can mask or falsely implicate some servers attributed to individual or organization’s location when in fact its planting, operation, and monitoring can be by some other entity or foreign power. Countries like China, Israel (world leader in cybersecurity, IT technologies and cybercrime know how), Iran, North Korea, U.K. among others could create and target proxy or virtual servers for their own agendas.

Using sophisticated processes like port forwarding, virtual machines, or dynamic port forwarding, passing data through some fixed servers but eventual access and control is under another entity or computer system is possible. Different ways to hacking some computers while implicating some entity as primary hacker.

The digital signatures used in malware to implicated GRU is available on the dark web and previously used by cybercriminal or operatives elsewhere in the world. Did the U.S. intelligence agencies and F.B.I. conduct tracing or pingback routing to establish the route of these installed malware, their origins, and  control by these alleged foreign parties to cause U.S. election meddling on such large-scale to implicate themselves as actors in these cyberactivities?

True cybercriminals don’t want to leave their digital fingerprints or signatures or destroy such traces so that their hacking activities does not reveal their identity or implicate the actual hacker(s). Hence, such easy conclusion of Russian interference probably means another foreign power or parties are involved or actual cybercriminals in these alleged schemes. What do you think?

Election meddling or same old political warfare by other foreign powers to influence U.S. election. If you think, foreign entities don’t interfere in U.S. elections, you should check out the history of various foreign lobbies in Washington D.C. with number one lobby being A.I.P.A.C. Speak a word against this lobby and you can kiss your election or re-election chances goodbye.
